“Those big people in government, they don’t understand my situation,” said Fred Reaves, 45, who is unemployed and said he would gladly take a job at the current city minimum, $8.25.
Or, in the words of Neil Peart (from “Mission”):
It’s cold comfort to the ones without it / To know how they struggled, how they suffered about it / If their lives were exotic and strange / They would like have gladly exchanged them for something a little more plain / Maybe something a little more sane
Walmart is out there, trying to give people jobs, trying to sell stuff to willing and eager buyers, trying to make money to give back to shareholders, but those big people in government won’t let them. What bigger, grander, better design do those politicians have? How will they make our lives better? I don’t know, but I do know that whatever their plan is, it will involve force. They will force me and you and Fred Reaves to adopt it.
