Bravo to the WaPo editorial board for nailing this critique of DC Council’s bill to impose higher minimum wages on new, large retailers such as Walmart and Wegman’s. Not only do they hit the important economic points (raising minimum wages will keep out would-be employers and sellers of goods/services that people want and increased minimum wages are bad for low skilled workers looking to enter the job market), but they also feature a number of political aspects of the bill such as the union-employer exemption and one councilman’s “trading” of votes.
