Is what Snowden did treason? I’m not going to address this issue. Instead, I’m going to paint what I see as the very simple problem picture I believe the government has gotten itself into with Snowden leak.
It doesn’t get much simpler than this:
Argument 1, premise 1: If what the government is doing with Prism is not a big deal, then what Snowden did is not a big deal.
Argument 1, conclusion 1: Calling what Snowden did treason is ridiculous (any legal definition of treason aside).
Argument 2, premise 1: If what the government is doing with Prism is a big deal, then what Snowden did is a big deal.
Argument 2, conclusion: What the government did is a big deal and Snowden is a hero (any legal definition of treason aside).
And so either way I think that: 1) Snowden is probably a good guy or a guy that ought not to be prosecuted; and 2) that the government is ridiculous or violating everybody’s rights.
