Here’s a question not asked in the article and it’s directed at all the ecologists out there: if extinction is bad, then does it follow that de-extinction is good? Is there a time limit on the duration which a creature has been extinct that changes the answer to the question? And: if extinction is bad and de-extinction is good, what about other forms of preventing extinction, perhaps the most effective of which is privatization of habitat land and for-profit activities such as permitted, regulated hunting of the very creatures about to go extinct?
To steal a line from Sting: If you love something, put a price on it. (?)
