I find discussion of the gender gap (in anything) to be interesting only in as much as it reveals something about the ability of the discusser to think rationally about the world. The topic is complicated, so to say anything intelligent about the topic at all, one must have some reasonable grasp of both logic and reality.

Here is an excellent excerpt on Mark Perry’s blog about research that purports to show that differences between the genders in pursuit of STEM occupations is due to differences in the number of opportunities available. Namely, women have more non-STEM opportunities and so are less likely to pursue STEM occupations.
