A guest column in the WaPo on the topic of allowing doping and other “enhancements” in professional sports. It’s not the most well reasoned piece – it’s very scattered and the argument is not fundamental in nature; it is more of a everybody is doing it so it should be legal argument than an seriously defensible position – but it does a good job of describing the “fact on the ground”.

If humans are to evolve we need doping. We need athletes and artists and CEOs and soldiers and others who have real incentives to enhance themselves to do so. And then we need to study the results. We’ll find out that some things are bad and we’ll discover some things that allow humans – all humans – to lead better, longer, healthier lives.

We need to evolve and we need pioneers to accept the risks and lead the way.
