Ridiculousness spewed forth from Eugene Robinson in a WaPo op ed regarding race and identity. Ridiculous because there can not possibly be any coherent concept of collective identity, of collective meaning, of a collective entity. Collectives are made up of individuals each of whom has an indivisible, un-mergeable identity.
This is another case of life imitates art…in this case the agenda of Prof. Morris Tucker and the Special Commission on Genetic Therapies in Evolve, Part 1: Unintended Consequences. While the consequences of Tucker’s views on collective identity are not discovered in part 1 (they emerge in parts 2 and 3), the nature of those views is revealed. Robinson and Tucker would, I would imagine, see eye to eye on this issue.
