Seems as if scientists have just discovered that horses that pace (rather than trot) do so because of a genetic mutation that impacts motor neurons. That is: there is a genetic basis for biomechanics, at least in horses.

This is pretty amazing. It could mean that, however subtle, there is a genetic basis for biomechanics in nearly any species, including humans. That is: you literally could be born to run (or not to).

This is an interesting variation (selective breeding and genetic biomechanics) on the scientific topic that basically is the entire basis of¬†Evolve. If you think this story about horses is interesting, I think you’d be rewarded by reading the novel.
