People don’t want electric cars. And yet, people – against their will – own a company that makes and sells (at a hefty loss) electric cars. The irony and sadness are great.

Chevy Volt costs $89,000 to make. Chevy sells it for $40,000. The more popular the Volt is – and it’s not very popular – the worse GM does. And the worse the US taxpayer does since we were and and are a real or implicit backstop for GM’s losses.

Gas works well. Gas is cheap. Why do people insist on wasting resources?
