Government management of forests through the National Forest Service has led to much more massive fires than previously occurred (pre/post 1905). Mark Perry blogs on this and correctly points out that there is a moral hazard lesson to be learned that is applicable to all aspects of government intervention.

This is an excellent read and a great discussion topic for your next dinner party. It highlights the subtitles of two of the Evolve books: Unintended Consequences and Emergent Order.
