Pea aphids may use photosynthesis for energy. If this is true, and it might not be, it would almost certainly open the door for technologists to work on enabling humans to use photosynthesis to generate (metabolic) energy.

The scientists at Gene Camp in Evolve develop a suit that does this. It was the closest to “far out” science fiction that the novel got. I’m really happy to see that it might not be that far out.

Economics tie-in: The above technology is developed. Food becomes essentially obsolete (really, it would become more like a luxury item). What happens to all the jobs associated in any way with food? They basically, too, become obsolete. Is this a bad thing? What other jobs would be created? Would they be better jobs? Would humans, in general, be better off?
