It’s pretty clear from this article (on the pending announcement of the Higgs Boson as discovered at LHC) that some physicists care a lot more about their jobs than they do about science.

This is what I mean when I say: we’re all people. Whether you’re a physicist, doctor, politician, whatever…you’ve got a family, you’ve got hobbies, you’ve got flaws, and you’ve got motivations and incentives that go beyond and astray of whatever it is your actual job description suggests.

Markets solve these issues; top-down control does not (it makes it worse).
