Mark Perry alerts us to this NYT article. There are lots of ways to slice and dice the mega-problem that is Europe, but this article offers a clean example of one aspect of the heart of the problem.

Summary: if you get sick while on part of your mandated 4-6 week yearly vacation leave you get those days back for vacationing at a time when you’re not sick.

This is a recipe for one thing: very very very high costs of labor.
