A common cry amongst the greens is that fossil fuels are subsidized and that those subsidies make it even harder for renewables such as wind and solar to grow from inefficient money wasting technologies into marketplace-self-sustaining technologies. The only problem with this cry is that it’s not true. At least, it’s not true when you consider the vast excess of subsidies given to renewables.

Mark Perry has the numbers in this post. The bottom line: renewables receive an 80:1 subsidy preference per unit of output.

Here is a somewhat dated article in The American (2010) that shows that solar is much worse, receiving a 1200:1 subsidy advantage over fossil fuels; Wind comes in with an 87:1 advantage.

Renewables are wasteful. If you care about the environment, you should lobby against them.
